Nature loving people opt for many natural things like indoor plants, eco friendly products and the exceptional woven shades. The reason is simple for their popularity; it is economical and environment friendly and can control the light intensity and heat as well. Woven shades are made of natural materials like bamboo, thin wooden planks, straws, grass, and matchsticks which are later woven together to form a large sheet. Woven shades are included in handicraft products. Most people think it is Roman style, true but Romans were not the first, Asia had also played a part in woven shades styles. Usually woven shades were used in Japan, either to cover an entrance or to separate private rooms of males and females. Poor people in the absence of the door will use a large bamboo or a reed shade to place it as a “door” to their house. Depending on the thickness of the shade, they can be completely opaque, semi-transparent or translucent.

Woven Shades are available in various colors, but the most common is earthly brown, green, white, grey and black. People choose these shades because it is friendly to the eyes, gives a natural feeling and don’t have to worry about chemicals if they get washed up by rain. They are easy to handle, durable, and give a soothing environment and the plus side is they are recyclable. The shades can be pulled from top to bottom and vice versa. The woven shades are also available as woven roller shades. Usually a thread is used to pull the shade up or down.

The next in line is the bamboo shades, which are also used as furniture; they are comparably more eco friendly and are dirt resistant, opaque, and good for the environment. Bamboo is a native plant of Asia; they are sturdy and have been used for a long time as a cutlery. Bamboo shades are available in variety of sizes and colors; the most demanding color is black and white.

Woven shades made form grass are a great choice if anyone wants to bring their greenery right inside their house. They are available in the custom color of white and brown. This shade can survive any weather and keep the heat out during the summers.

One thing that must be kept in mind, most of the woven shades are not natural but are synthetic made, because some plants tend to rot away after some years and synthetic keeps them long-lasting.

Woven shades are easy to clean, but if any damage occurs to it, it is better to contact the store in case because such shades are delicate and professional help. In case of a small damage like edges are rubbing off, they can be sewed up, or if they get stuck, it is better to try open the stuck shade with care.

Wooden blinds are a sophisticated upgrade to traditional vinyl blinds, with the range of wood types and finishes providing a large selection to choose from. Wood can be expensive, however, with prices varying according to both retailer and materials. Faux wood is an economical alternative to wooden blinds, with an added benefit of easy care, making faux wood a popular budget-friendly choice.

One of the key features that make wooden blinds an attractive home addition is the fact that they can work in any room, and with any decor. Wood has the unique ability to never look out of place regardless of the decorating style, and it enhances the appearance of retro, traditional, and contemporary themes. Wooden blinds also offer durability, with hardwoods such as oak and maple often used to ensure the products will last. Bamboo is another popular wood choice, as this all-natural material adds resistance to both moisture and mildew to its overall durability.

The range of shades and finishes adds to the versatility of wooden blinds, as wood can be both stained and painted. Stained blinds are the most commonly chosen option, with finishes including a variety of light and dark oaks, as well as chestnut, maple, cherry, and walnut. Wood also provides an easily painted surface, allowing colors that encompass virtually any hue. However, white, ivory, and eggshell are the most commonly chosen painted blinds. The disadvantage to wooden blinds is often the cost, as solid wood is inevitably more expensive than synthetic materials.

Faux wood is an option for those who want the look of wood, but may be faced with budget concerns. Faux wood is often made of composite wood or vinyl, although it offers the look of real wood. Faux wood also has the advantage of being less prone to splitting, fading, and cracking, making it ideal for rooms in which humidity is an issue. An added benefit is that faux wood tends to be more scratch-resistant than real wood, making it a suitable in homes that have small children or pets.

The care of faux wood is another feature that makes it a practical alternative to real wooden blinds, as cleaning usually requires no more than simple dusting. For blinds that are heavily soiled, a mild detergent and a soft cloth can be used, without the risk of moisture damage that can occur with real wood. Submerging fauxwood blinds is not recommended, however, as this can damage the hardware and cause the cords to deteriorate. A helpful cleaning tip for faux wood blinds is to make the last step of cleaning a gentle rubbing of the slats with a dryer sheet, as this will both repel dust and reduce the amount of static electricity.

The cost of faux wood is often the deciding factor when it comes to choosing wooden blinds, as faux wood comes with a lower price tag. In fact, the cost of faux wood can be as much as 15-25% less than the price of real wood. Both faux and real wooden blinds are available at most home and department stores, as well as from a number of online retailers, and shopping around is recommended to find the largest selection in terms of products and prices. The Internet can be especially useful as a means of comparison, as selection will not be limited to the local area.

Wooden blinds are an attractive addition to home decoration, and they have the versatility of being suitable for use in any room, regardless of decorating style. Wood grains are the most popular option when it comes to finishes, with shades that include light and dark oak, maple, and walnut, as well as cherry and pecan. Wood also allows a wider variety in terms of painted blinds, with both soft and bold colors available, although shades of white are the most commonly chosen colors. Faux wood is an affordable alternative to real wood, as this material has the appearance of true wood, but with a price tag that is often 15-25% less. The easy care of faux wood increases its appeal, as even soiled blinds can be safely cleaned with a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Faux wood is also will not fade, crack, peel, or split, increasing the durability of the material. Both faux and real wooden blinds are widely available in retail stores and online, and shopping around is recommended to find the largest selection at the lowest price. Wood is one of the few materials that never looks out of place, and the addition of wooden blinds can increase warmth and appeal of every room in the home.

Window Shutter

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A window shutter is a solid and stable window covering usually consisting of a frame of vertical stiles and horizontal rails (top, center and bottom). Set within this frame can be louvers (both operable or fixed, horizontal or vertical), solid panels, fabric, glass and most any other item that can be mounted within a frame. Shutters may be employed for a variety of reasons, including controlling the amount of sunlight that enters a room, to provide privacy, to protect against weather and to enhance the aesthetics of a building. Depending on the application, and the construction of the window frame, shutters can be mounted to fit within the opening or to overlap the opening. The term window shutter includes both interior shutters, used on the inside of a house or building, and exterior shutters, used on the outside of a structure. On some styles of buildings it is common to have shutters to cover the doors as well as the windows.

 Interior shutters with opened louvers

Interior shutters usually hinge on either side of a window opening, and swing inwards to allow access to the window or to allow light to enter a room. Operable louvred shutters have louvres, or slats, that rotate open or closed to control light, visibility and airflow. Shutters that have operable louvres are described using different terms such as traditional shutters, California shutters, or plantation shutters which typically refers to the size of the louvre blade. Other interior shutters use stationary louvres that do not rotate (fixed louvres), solid panels that can be raised, recessed or flat, fabric inserts or tinted glass. Shutters can be configured in a single tier unit that has one shutter top to bottom of a window opening as well as multiple tiers. Multiple tier units feature separate shutters on each tier which allows the top shutters to be opened independently from the bottom shutters. Café type shutters refer to shutters that only cover the lower portion of a window.

Full height shutters can be made with a horizontal divider rail which separates the upper and lower portions of the shutter. With operable louvers, shutters give greater control as the louvers above the divider rail can be operated independently from the louvers below the divider rail. A tilt bar (rod) is used for adjusting louver position and to keep them in a uniform position. Interior shutters can be constructed from numerous woods, which can be painted or stained, and a variety of synthetic materials. Interior shutters that are made to close tolerances are preferable for the best possible fit. When louvers or tilt bar (rod) become damaged, replacement kits for these damaged parts may be ordered online and are easy to install.

In Style Shutters help sell your home

The Times newspaper recently reported on the must have front-of house fashions you need to undertake to win buyers. Lucy Alexander’s Times article summarizes the top 10 changes you should make to the front of your home and window shutters were the number 4 ‘to do’ on the list. Some of the suggestions may appear fairly obvious, painting your front door a neutral color or fitting chrome door furniture however plantation shutters are now very much the in-style window covering to add that curb appeal to your home.

Are shutters still in style? John Lewis certainly seem to thinks so, their homewares buying director, Paula Nickolds said “Plantation shutters are the fastest-growing window treatment ”. In 2009 the department store group expanded its interior shutters range from several branches.

It reinforces the strength and growth of the ‘in style’ shutters product, which we believe will one day eclipse UK blinds sales. In the 10 years we have been trading we have seen the market grow year on year. Trends however have been heading in one direction with regards to the colors our customers select for their window shutters, 80% opt for Bright White or Cloudy White. That doesn’t mean they are all white though, every now and then customers will order a bespoke color, such as green shutters. Evidently this is to allow the wooden shutters to complement the white window frames most of us have in our homes. We’ve always felt this seamless and subtle addition to your windows helps to add value to your home. Plantation Shutters have been in style for many years and will continue to be so for many to come.

Plantation shutters have aesthetics, increase home value, long lasting, energy efficient , low maintenance, and they have style and curb appeal. Plantation shutters give you ultimate control of light, temperature, noise, and privacy with the most durable and beautiful shutters you can own. More people are selecting shutters over drapes, blinds, or shades because shutters last longer, look better, resist weather better, clean easier, and add more value to your home than any other window coverings. You’ll love the way they look in your home! They’ll instantly transform the style of your home. Unlike any other window treatments, plantation shutters compliment any decor and establish a look that blends with every design style from traditional to contemporary.

Plantation shutters actually increase your home’s value. If you’re thinking of refinancing or selling, appraisers will increase your estimated home value when you have our plantation shutters. No other window treatments look better or last longer than plantation shutters. Plantation shutters are engineered to be the finest shutter on the market with wood or material and finish that will outlast your home. Plantation shutters are built to withstand dramatic temperatures, humidity, light and normal use over long periods of time.

Using Plantations Shutters for Light Control. The adjustable louver blades make controlling light within your home easy with plantation shutters. The blades can be angled up or down to allow light to enter, but also allow you to focus light away from furniture or decorations to help prevent damage from sunlight. Closing plantation shutters will block out as much light as a standard pair of curtains. If you need to sleep during the day, have a south facing room or just prefer total darkness to sleep, then a blackout shutter will shut out maximum light and can be ideal in a bedroom or child’s nursery.
White shutters are a popular choice for creating the feeling of light within a room, as they will reflect light well, but also ensure your window space is not cluttered by dark features which can make the room feel smaller.
Shutters provide air circulation and ventilation. Opening louver blades on plantation shutters allow air to circulate easily within your home, providing good ventilation. The added bonus with shutters is that there is no material to billow out into your room and knock ornaments or decorations over, and as the plantation shutters can be left shut even when the louvers are open your privacy can be maintained.
You can always add a lock to the plantation shutters if they are being used in a child’s room so that a window can be left open, but ensure your child remains safe as they are unable to access the open window.

Privacy and Security with Plantation Shutters. Angling the louver blades to allow light to enter but keeping prying eyes out can provide both privacy and security for your home. When away from home plantation shutters can be left angled this way so that any lights or radios left on timed can be seen and heard, creating the impression that there is someone home. As an added deterrent you could fit a catch or lock to the inside of shutters to prevent them easily being opened.
Where you have a view you don’t want to completely cover but want to prevent those outside from seeing into your home you can always install a half-height or cafe-style shutter, which will only cover the lower half of your window. This allows excellent light levels, an uninterrupted view from the top half of the window, but maintains privacy.

Shutters are durable. Shutters are hard-wearing and durable, and as they are often only opened when the windows need cleaning there are fewer issues of wear and tear.
Louver blades can be easily replaced, and can also be adjusted from a small screw to tighten or loosen the louver operation to suit your personal preference, and reduce damage occurring through use.
Plantation shutters can reduce decorating costs. White shutters are a popular choice as they match windows, and prevent the need to replace window coverings every time you decorate. As your plantation shutters will match many styles of decor, and in white will go with any colour, this will mean that you don’t need to keep replacing them to match your new decorations.
Shutters can be re-sprayed if you choose, in order to match a particular color, or just to refurbish them if they need refreshing.

Creating space with Shutters. As shutters fit in the window recess, there is no protrusion into your room, unlike curtains which are often fitted on the outside of the window recess. This creates a feeling of space within your room, and can be particularly noticeable where curtains have been fitted across the opening of a bay window.
Shutters are easy to care for and dust reducing. Plantation shutters can be easily maintained, with no need for professional cleaning. Each shutter can be dusted, and wiped clean with a damp cloth when necessary, to maintain their appearance. Dust can be removed to prevent it building up in materials, helping those who have allergies such as asthma and need dust levels minimized.

Shutters help reducing noise levels. Plantation shutters can help to lower outside noise levels, as they provide a barrier between your windows and your room. Solid shutters will do this most effectively, but plantation shutters can be an excellent solution if you live on a busy road or have high noise levels near your home.
Insulation assisted by plantation or solid shutters. As plantation shutters can form a solid barrier between the window and room they can help to insulate your property and prevent heat loss when louvers are closed. The louvers closure is designed to help reduce heat leaking out of your home.

Shutters can reduce your heating costs. BBC News Edinburgh (somewhere it can get pretty cold!) has featured a report on the benefit of closing shutters at dusk to help insulate windows and dramatically reduce heating bills.

Health benefits of Plantation Shutters. Although dust will settle on the shutter louvers, it is much easier to clean it off them than traditional blinds and curtains. It is worth noting that the dust cannot penetrate the hardwood shutters, whereas heavy curtains and most types of blinds store dust in their fibers. This in turn creates a breeding ground for dust mites, which can cause allergies and itching. When compared to traditional window coverings, Interior shutters are very low maintenance, requiring a simple wipe down every now and then.
Curb appeal Shutters. Window shutters should be considered an investment as well as giving your windows a contemporary and crisp revamp. Potential purchasers will be looking for signs that your home is not only well maintained but in vogue and window shutters are must for these properties. Window shutters will also help disguise unsightly uPVC windows. Rather than remove plastic double glazed windows, when inside your property, shutters can completely hide these window frames from sight and transform the interior feel of your room.

Shutters are the most versatile window covering. Because window shutters are custom made to the millimeter, they are perfect for awkward shaped windows such as circles, arches, gables and abnormally large window apertures. Manufactured in a wide range of colors and stains with the option to custom color match, our window shutters can be made to suit any taste and widow style.
Shutters aid silence. The timber properties of interior shutters act as a natural noise barrier. When the panels and louvers are fully closed the shutters create a timber barrier which acts like a secondary glaze, in aiding noise reduction. Of equal benefit, when windows are opened to allow breeze to circulate, unlike blinds which have been known to rattle around a bit, interior shutters are virtually noise-free. The integral magnets fitted in the frames ensure the panels don’t bang and clank in the wind like conventional blinds.
Indoor shutters offer security and privacy. Due to the flexible design of indoor shutters, the bottom section of louvers can be angled to ensure you and the contents of your room remain private, whilst the top section of shutter louveres can be opened to allow light into the room. This is an added advantage for those living adjacent to a roadside and wanting to keep unwelcome attention out.

Full light control and UV protection. Shutters for house windows give a level of light control which is superior to any other window covering. The shutter louvers can be angled accordingly to control the level of light entering your room. If more light is required the panels can be opened back fully. By angling the light upwards, the shutter louvers will help protect furniture and flooring by filtering the sun’s harmful UV rays away, however the shutters themselves will not fade as all our shutters are finished with a UV protective paint or stain.
